MFC Survival Win Contract for AirLift Bags

The South West Fire and Rescue Service has recently awarded a framework contract for the provision of hydraulic rescue equipment and associated equipment primarily to perform extrications at road traffic collisions. The four year framework contract has been awarded from the 1st April 2006 by Dorset on behalf of the South West Region and part of it covers the purchase of airlift bags from MFC Survival. The arrangement includes opportunities for servicing, maintenance and supply of spare parts.

The contract has recently been reviewed by Graham Maltby, FSPA Development Director and Firebuy Ltd Workstream Director for Fire Vehicles and Emergency Response Equipment. He said “Firebuy audited the procurement process and results and we found it to be a first class procurement process that not only meets the needs of the South West region but will also provide value for money opportunities to all the other English fire and rescue services. Firebuy would therefore recommend that until a national contract is established that this contract is used forthwith.”

The equipment underwent product evaluations over two days. MFC Survival had to prove that the AirLift Recovery Bags were fully capable of performing on New Car Technology. The ability to provide value added activities and service provision was also required. Stowage, training, stock management, risk assessments and a project management approach to contract implementation and management as well as high performing equipment were all assessed.
